Biodiesel:

The most common biofuel in Europe is biodiesel. It is produced from oils or fats using transesterification and is a liquid similar in composition to fossil/mineral diesel. Chemically, it consists mostly of fatty acid methyl (or ethyl) esters. Feedstocks for biodiesel is mainly vegetable oils.

Immobilized lipases:

Enzymatic transesterification of vegetable oil with methanol or ethanol yields the final product "biodiesel". Lipases have been proven successful for this. The high cost of the enzymes often makes the enzymatic processes economically unattractive.

The key step in enzymatic processes lies in successful immobilization of the enzyme. This allows for its recovery and reuse. ChiralVision has a large range of immobilized lipases available suitable for the biodiesel production process.
